Going Green Update
The Pure Grenada Music Festival is committed to being a premiere environmentally friendly event. We recognise that sustainable resolutions to environmental issues can be brought about through a cultural agenda. This provides us not only with opportunities to engage and advocate in this area but, a responsibility to do so by partnering with as many like minded stakeholders as possible.

Pure Grenada Music Festival looks forward to working with Commissioner Ashley Folkes and his team at Her Majesty’s Prison, Richmond Hill in relation to the various Going Green Projects. It is intended that prisoners at Richmond Hill will be creating the bamboo fencing for the concerts held at Port Louis.

Disposable Permanence is a mixed-media installation project made primarily from bamboo, discarded plastic waste, LED lights and old bicycles. This abstract large-scale art piece will be free standing sculptures resembling tree/volcano hybrids built from the bamboo, exploding from the inside, with waste gathered from beaches, households, roadsides and events - symbolic of the volume and forms of waste we produce daily. Festival-goers will walk through these bamboo forms and interact with the installation by pedaling on generating sustainable energy, to light the volcanic forest and charge their phones

Sponsorship
Approaching companies with a new sponsorship opportunity has been one of our main focuses. Presentations, one to one meetings, proposal writing, final agreements, issuing invoices as well as the hundreds of follow up phone calls has certainly kept us busy.

We are very thankful for all the forward thinking companies who have come on board to support PGMF, some in a heart beat and others took just a little bit longer.

PGMF MOTORCADE A SUCCESS

Grenada Gets A Taste of What Is To Come

St. George’s Grenada, November 22, 2015: The Pure Grenada Music Festival (PGMF) team took the streets of Grenada by storm on Saturday November 21 in their island wide motorcade.

From the Le Phare Bleu Boutique Hotel and Marina, the convoy travelled the eastern route with major stops in La Tante Junction, the Town of Grenville, Sauteurs, Gouyave and the Esplanade Mall. At each stop, the public was entertained by a DJ spinning tunes from the international artistes and the extraordinary talent of two of the Big Stage acts, Grenada’s very own Sabrina Francis and A#keem.

Along the way the Festival Ambassadors – all volunteers, plus representatives from two other local bands Jomo & Gylfi and Duanel Barthomew and Sinicar Henry-Rogers from Changes - handed out flyers, shared information and set expectations for the eagerly anticipated April 5 – 10, 2016. The event also provided a perfect opportunity to share the Early Bird Special of EC $195.00 for all four main stage shows for Grenadians only. Tickets will be available for December at outlets island-wide.

Chair of the Steering Committee, Jana Caniga was delighted by the success of the activity. “The enthusiasm with which we were greeted and the support we have received during this activity was extraordinary and very encouraging.”

The PGMF team thanks wholeheartedly, everyone who supported the initiative including our sponsors, founders and our volunteer ambassadors.

The Pure Grenada Factor

A decidedly Grenadian Music Festival

The Pure Grenada Music Festival (PGMF) today presented the full line up of Grenadian artistes participating in the much anticipated 6 day, 4 venue event carded for April 5 – 10, 2016.
In addition to the 10 up and coming local bands selected through participation in the earlier launched Ready for the Big Stage initiative. These are: Sabrina Francis (Voices of the World April 5th); Love Vibes, Natty & Channel 12, Ahkeem & Nature Claim, Changes, Sheereen Brizan & the Inflectionz (Mobile concerts in Gouyave and Grenville on April 6th and 7th); The Phoenix (Rock De Boat – Floating Stage, April 7th); Jomo & Gylfi (Rhythm and Soul – April 8th); Spice Rock (Reggae Night – April 9th); and Soul Deep (Pure Grenada Vibz – April 10th).
Added to this pool of phenomenal talent is a list of names, which reads as the “Grenadian Who’s Who” of pioneering and successful musical achievement in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Bringing the curtain down on the festival is all Grenadian cast of Musical Royalty – Valene Nedd, Keturah George, Kelly “Rootsman Kelly” Clyne; Kelson and Kellon “Luni Spark and Electrify” Ogiste; Elwin “Black Wizard” Mc Quilkin; Wilt “Tallpree” Cambridge; Findley “Scholar” Jeffrey; Hollice “Mr. Killa” Mapp and Edson “Ajamu” Mitchell.
Musical Director for the Programme, Mr. Ethorn Francis, explained that the artistes will be accompanied by a hand picked band of Grenada’s best musicians under his guidance, supported by Mr. Cecil Noel.
Apart from performing their own pieces, all artistes will present a collaborative musical surprise, adding to the delight and anticipation of what promises to be the show to end all shows.
Says Steering Committee Member, Dieter Burkhalter,

“Pure Grenada Vibz is one of several projects within the Pure Grenada Music Festival which speaks directly to the benefit of Grenada and Grenadians. Ready for the Big Stage, Pure Grenada Vibz, our Artiste in Residence Programmes is the beginning of the delivery of our mandate.
It is no coincidence that, the closing night of the inaugural Pure Grenada Music Festival is final reminder to the world of who we are and what we have to offer musically. It is also a reminder of why they should return next year and continue to support Grenadian talent.”
He reiterated the purpose of the festival as a window for exposure to the international community and most importantly a platform for developing Grenadian musicians under the auspices of Music and Beyond.”

Music and Beyond is the locally registered non-profit responsible for this very first fundraising initiative to which all the festivals profits would be donated so that critical necessary and adequate support required by musicians can be provided.
Tickets for the Pure Grenada Music Festival are available at outlets island-wide with an online option to follow soon.

A Great Collaboration

In collaboration with the Alliance Française the Pure Grenada Music Festival is very happy to present Erik Pédurand from Guadeloupe.

Érik Pédurand grew up a precocious child in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, captivated by his father’s CD collection. Born into a creole childhood with a family of musicians, his ears were nurtured by the music of Kassav, the rhythms of Gwo Ka, and the texts of Jacques Brel.

In 2003, at the age of 17, he made his début on National TV as a contestant on the show STARDOM, broadcast on the channel Guadeloupe Première. With his diploma in hand, Pédu- rand moved to Paris to study foreign languages at the University. While immersing himself
in his studies, he found himself increasingly drawn to the Paris underground music scene, where he would meet the musicians who would co-author his first songs and help launch his first album.

The artist’s first album “Chayé Kow” was released in 2009 under the label AWI Music. As the singles “Si ou pa la” and “On bel jouné” enjoyed significant radio play and TV rotation, the artist started to attract the attention of the industry. In 2009, Pédurand won the award for Best New Artist at the Afro-Caribbean Art Awards Ceremony in Paris (Trophées des arts afro- caribéens). In 2010 he finished the year with the best-selling album in the French West Indies. After a sold-out show at the prestigious Parisian venue La Cigale, Pédurand embarked on a whirlwind tour with the legendary group Kassav, world-renowned pioneers of Zouk. He per- formed for audiences throughout Europe, North America, and the Caribbean.

In 2013, Pédurand released his second album “Ecole Créole,” a sonorous voyage between the Caribbean and Africa. The album, an impressive demonstration of his unique influences, was meticulously crafted in his Parisian home-studio. Upon its release École Créole won immediate critical acclaim, capturing the “2013 Judges Choice” (Coup de Coeur) award in the category “Caribbean Music” at the Ceremony Elwa D’or en Guadeloupe in 2013.
